A more natural posture
Cats do not crouch low over their food for long. A raised bowl brings the food up closer to the mouth, so a cat can eat in a more upright, relaxed posture. For older cats, or any cat with a stiff neck or achy joints, that little bit of height can make bending down less of a chore.
Raising the bowl a few centimetres can also slow down fast eaters and mean less food pushed onto the floor — which your cleaning routine will thank you for.
Height and material matter
The right height is roughly where your cat does not have to stoop or stretch — about the level of their lower chest. Watch how they stand: if the neck cranes down or the legs splay out, try a little higher or lower.
Material matters too. A stable, easy-to-wipe bowl stays hygienic and will not skate across the tiles mid-meal. Heavier, well-balanced pieces stay put when an eager cat leans in.
